Dora S. (Kaplan) Kaiman, 98, of Sioux City died Friday, April 11, 2008, at her residence.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Congregation Beth Shalom, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. There will be no visitation. Dora was born Sept. 25, 1909, in Sioux City, the daughter of Paul and Esther "Rose" (Raskin) Kaplan. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School.
She married Joe Kaiman on May 14, 1933, in Sioux City. He died in July 1991. Dora worked at Pioneer Iron Works, her father's business, until she married Joe. Then she worked with her husband and later her son, Paul, at Lane's Bottling Company until it closed in May 1983.
She had been a member of Shaare Zion Synagogue and the Women's League. She was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom, Hadassah and the Sisterhood. Dora was very proud of her family and loved being around them. She took great pleasure in her six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She enjoyed Mah Jong and playing poker.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Kaiman of Alexandria, Va., and Paul Kaiman and his wife, Suzi of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Beth Zwick and her husband, Burton, Josh Kaiman, Judd Kaiman, Brad Kaiman and his wife, Jennifer, Pete Kaiman and his wife, Molly, and Charles Kaiman and his wife, Joanne; six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Rebbeca and Zachary Zwick, Kate Kaiman and Makena and Dylan Kaiman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters, Charles Kaplan, Matthew Kaplan, Sophie Weiner, Kate Ferer, Dr. David Kaplan and Sarah Kaplan.
Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Congregation Beth Shalom or Hospice of Siouxland.
