John "Jack" Junck

February 26, 1932 — September 6, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- John "Jack" Junck, 78, of Sioux City went to heaven peacefully surrounded by his beloved family Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in the Bernstein Unit at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Revs. James Travis and David Schoop officiating. Burial will be in Rademaker Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jack was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Sioux City, the son of Martin and Leona "Toots" (Munch) Junck. He grew up in the Hinton area and attended country school. He graduated from Hinton High School.

He married Vandy Anderson on Feb. 18, 1955, in Sioux City. They farmed for two years and then moved to Sioux City. Jack was employed with Nixon Feed for several years. He then went to work for Purina Mills and retired from there after 30 years.

He was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Jack joyfully served the Lord at the church he loved through the various committees he worked on. He loved the thrill of getting a good deal on cars and campers. He enjoyed camping, dancing and music. He was very handy and enjoyed doing remodeling projects.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vandy of Sioux City; six daughters, Kim Watts and her husband, Mike, Karry Rigg and her husband, Dale and Kelli Moughan and her husband, Mike, all of Wichita, Kan., Kris Liska and her husband, Jade of Kansas City, Mo., Kamie Lee and her husband, Shawn and Kathie Fergen and her husband, Jake, all of Sioux City; a brother, Donald Junck of Texas; a sister, Leilyn Taylor and her husband, Bill of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren, Christopher, Colin and Cameron Manuel, Mandi, Sage, Carly and Spencer Moughan, Ashlyn and Alec Liska, Avery and Addyson Lee and Hunter and Parker Fergen; a great-granddaughter, Ava Moughan; and a granddog, Muffy Rigg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Leona "Toots" Junck; two brothers, Kenny and Robert Junck; his mother and father-in-law, Joe and Sylvia Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Ida.

Pallbearers will be his six sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be Eldo and Midge Bollmeyer, Dave Muecke, Bob and Bev Howard and Ed and LaRoyce Kollbaum.

A memorial has been established in Jack's name.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the staff at the Berstein Unit of Sunrise Retirement Community, Dr. Holdiman and Dr. Callahan.
