Berniece Joslin, 85, of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at Countryside Retirement Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star Service by Silver Azure Chapter at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Berniece was born on August 27, 1922, in Wakonda, South Dakota to William and Dena (Anderson) Roberts. She grew up in Wakonda and graduated from Wakonda High School in 1940. She moved to Sioux City in 1945.
Berniece married Dwight Joslin on September 24, 1955, in Emerson, NE. After their marriage they owned and operated the Joslins IGA grocery store on West 2nd St. until they sold it in 1961. Berniece then became a home maker and mother to their 4 boys. The family moved to a farm in the Westfield area in 1971, where she was active in the Westfield Presbyterian Church and was a farm wife. The family then moved back to Sioux City in 1976.
She was an avid golfer at Sun Valley Golf Course where she made her hole in one. She also enjoyed bowling at the Plaza Bowl and the couple also loved square dancing. She was a member of the Eastern Star Daughters of the Nile, Shrine Auxiliary and served as treasurer of the Riverside Chapter. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church until it closed then became a member at Wesley United Methodist Church. In her younger years Berniece and her two sisters, Norma and Agnes, sang on WNAX radio. In later years Dwight and Berniece wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 25 years.
Berniece is survived by her husband, Dwight Joslin, of Sioux City, 4 sons, Larry Joslin and wife Cheri of Sioux City, Louis Joslin and wife Sue of Ellicott City, MD, Paul Joslin and wife Peggy of Mitchell, SD and Ronald Joslin and wife Karen of Fordyce, NE, 2 sisters, Agnes Sealey of Meckling, SD, and Norma Linsley of CA, 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Lorraine, an infant son, and 2 great granddaughters, Katelyn and Brittany.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.
