JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Jeanette L. Granny Jorgensen, 73 of Jefferson, SD passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Elk Point United Parish, Elk Point, SD with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Cremation will follow the visitation. Burial will be at a later date. Jeanette was born September 23, 1936 in Lavaca, Arkansas the daughter of Thomas Andrew and Della Mae (Chambers) Kanady. At an early age the family moved to Bakersfield, California where she graduated from high school.
On March 29, 1966 she married David M. Jorgensen in Las Vegas, NV. The couple moved to the Austin, TX area in 1971. In 1993 they returned to South Dakota for their retirement.
Granny was a great homemaker and loved her grandkids very much. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling. Dragons and frogs were her favorite nicknacks that she collected.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David; 6 children and their spouses and (18 grandchildren), Kim and John Perry (Sara and Lacy) of Elgin, TX, Crystal Jorgensen (Courtney) of Sioux City, Tom and Brenda Jorgensen (Dawson, Bryson and Shilyn) of Bottineau, ND, Melody and Michael Heiser (Dominick and Katrina) of Georgetown, TX, David and Amy Jorgensen (Jessica, Laura, Tonya, Julia, Jeffery, David, Joseph and Ella) of El Paso, TX, and Jeanette Jorgensen and Andres Jimenez (Felica and Layla); 2 sisters, Asalea White of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Velta Shaw of Taft, CA; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Robin Cole and 2 infant children, Wayne and Kathleen Wood.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
