Ruth C. Jones, 83, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Third Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jennifer Santer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery at Plainview, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ruth was born July 7, 1923, in Plainview, Neb., the daughter of Byron W. and Alice (Kuhl) Clark. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1940 and taught in the rural schools of Cedar and Pierce Counties. She attended the Harney Institute of Technology in Omaha, Neb. and the Boeing School of Aeronautics in California. She was employed by United Airlines in Omaha and Washington, D.C.

While living in Washington, D.C., she met and married E. Ralph Jones on March 24, 1947, in Washington, D.C. He died March 2, 1982, in Sioux City. To this union, one daughter, Diane Beth, was born. The family moved from Washington, D.C. to Plainview, Neb. in 1953, where they farmed. In 1957, they moved to Sioux City, where Ralph was an air traffic controller with the F.A.A. Ruth was employed by David Floor & Paint, the Big Soo Terminal and Area 12.

She was an active member of Third Presbyterian Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Presbyterian Women's president and long-time secretary as well as being a deaconess, trustee and elder and active member of her circle. She was a former member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and was a charter member of Kan Duettes. She was a member of Sahibs and several bridge clubs and dearly loved her many friends. Ruth was never without a smile and was devoted to her family.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane and her husband, Cleo A. "Chip" Pottorff Jr.; two grandsons, Tate Pottorff and Brandie Halterman and Troy Pottorff; a great-granddaughter, Abbey Rose Halterman; a sister, Deloris Larson and her husband, Carlyle of Plainview, Neb.; a sister-in-law, Darlene Clark of Plainview; plus nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; a brother, Vernon Clark; and her in-laws, Elmer and Henrietta Jones.
