SIOUX CITY -- Florence "Grace" Jones, 83, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, in the Hospice unit of Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Valerie Heller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Grace was born Aug. 29, 1926, near Merrill, Iowa, to Walter C. and Florence Margaret (Robbins) Hartman. She attended rural country school and rode to school in horse-drawn wagons and sleds driven by her brother. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1944. After graduation, she began working at Sioux Bee Honey.
She married Wayne Jones on Sept. 2, 1950, in Merrill. Wayne died May 29, 2001, in Sioux City. Grace worked for Sioux Bee Honey for more than 40 years, retiring in 1991. She was a committed, dedicated and hard-working employee. After her retirement, Grace did volunteer work for Lutheran Social Services Senior Help Mate. She received many awards and was a favorite worker who was frequently requested by her clients.
Grace was a former member of Melbourne United Methodist Church and a current member of Grace United Methodist Church. The most important part of her life was her family, and she enjoyed family trips and family reunions. She also enjoyed her bowling leagues, puzzles, playing cards, dancing, traveling and the Dallas Cowboys. She was a member of the Ladies Friday Group. Grace looked forward to her weekly hair appointments.
Survivors include her daughter, Joni Wilde and her husband, Delvin; her son, Terry Jones and his wife, Mary, all of Sioux City; four granddaughters, Lindsie and Kelsie Wilde, Taylor and Nicole Jones; and her close friend, Nina Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; three brothers, Walter Hartman Jr., Floyd Hartman and Alvis Hardy; four sisters-in-law; and six brothers-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Hansen, Roger Hartman, Andre Sala, Don Mueller, Frank Moss and Calvin Hartman.
