SIOUX CITY -- Darlene M. Jones, 76, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Darlene was born March 2, 1933, in Barnett, Mo., the daughter of Bernard and Christina (Wingert) Smith. She grew up in Barnett and moved to Sioux City at the age of 14.
She married Raymond V. Jones on April 3, 1947. He died May 12, 1987. She worked for the egg factory and then for F.W. Means for 34 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the Teamsters Union. She also was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking cookies and her dog, Lizzie.
Survivors include a son, Jim Jones and his wife, Myrna of Sioux City; three daughters, Betty French and her husband, Tom of Peoria, Ariz., Jeannette Davis and her husband, Fred of Sioux City and Robin Miller and her husband, Bob of Sergeant Bluff; two brothers, John Smith of Hudson, S.D., and Dennis Smith of Sioux City; a sister, Alvina Barbee of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Jean Smith and Vera Smith, both of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Jackie Plendl, Troy Jones, Marcy Schroeder, James Jones Jr., Fred Davis, Brian Davis, Nancy Davis, Janine Miller, Ashley Miller and Courtney Miller; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Ray Jones Jr. and Mike Jones; four brothers, Roy, Mancel, Burnice and Darius; and a sister, Christina.
Pallbearers will be James Jones, Brian Davis, Craig Plendl, Joey Schroeder, Tony Calamanco and Kevin Barbee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Jones, Fred Davis, Bob Miller, William Barbee, John Smith and Dennis Smith.
