Violet E. Johnson, 78, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Kevin Lee of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Violet was born March 18, 1929, in Parkston, S.D., the daughter of Frederich and Christina (Hoffman) Engel. She moved from Mitchell, S.D. to Sioux City in the early 1950s.
She married Robert H. Johnson on Aug. 18, 1951, in Tripp, S.D. She was employed at the Red Owl Store in Sioux City at one time. Robert preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 1994, in Sioux City.
She had been an active member of First Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years. At one time, she was a member of the Youth and Rec committee and a Sunday School teacher. She also was a member of the Sioux City Police Auxiliary Association and Siouxland Gem and Mineral Society. She enjoyed crafts.
Survivors include special caregivers, Larry and Jan Twait of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Deborah Ann Barta and her two daughters, Sheri Lyn Finken and Kari Ann Barnes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Thomas Lynn Johnson in 1990; four brothers, Emil, Reuben, Benjamin and Herbert Engel; and five sisters, Anna Mehlhoff, Luella Dorick, Leah Tiede, Josephine Tiede and Esther Van Hove.
