09/26/2008SERGEANT BLUFF -- Robert L. "Bob" Johnson, 68, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at his residence, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at The Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. vigil service, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Bob was born April 2, 1940, in Sioux City, to Albert and Delores (Reeves) Johnson. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School.
He married Sandra "Sandy" Olbertz on July 18, 1964, in Elk Point, S.D. Bob was a Sioux City resident until moving to Dakota City in 1992, then to Sergeant Bluff in 2001. He began working for Booth & Olson Construction before serving two years in the U.S. Army. After the service, Bob returned to Sioux City and again worked for Booth & Olson Construction. He worked for IBP for over 20 years, and the family has owned and operated the Sioux Apartment building since 1979.
He was a member of The Church of the Nativity and the American Legion in Dakota City. Bob enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and exercising. He would bike, rollerblade and walk along the riverfront. He loved spending time with his pets.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra "Sandy" Johnson of Sergeant Bluff; two daughters, Kimberly Johnson of Albert City, Iowa, and Kristy Johnson and her husband, Jay Johnson of Watertown, S.D.; a son, Robert "Bob" Johnson Jr. and his wife, Tina of Sergeant Bluff; five grandchildren, Justin, Danika, Zach, Lindsay and Hanna Johnson; a brother, Paul Johnson and his wife, Beverly of Sioux City; a sister, Barbara Cogdill and her husband, Steve of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Diane Johnson of Sioux City; a special family friend, Chris Brown of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends from Hospice of Siouxland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jake Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Bob Hansen, Robert Doenhoefer, Kim Wenger, LeRoy Plafcan, Jeff Fylstra and Todd Trobaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin, Danika, Zach, Lindsay and Hanna Johnson.
Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
