Hilda M. Johnson

Hilda M. Johnson, 97, of Sioux City died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mrs. Johnson was born Jan. 18, 1911, in Pender, Neb., the daughter of Pete and Alma (Johnson) Pearson. She grew up in Pender and graduated from Wayne State Teacher's College. She taught country school before her marriage.

She married Leonard S. Johnson on Dec. 25, 1938, in Bancroft, Neb. He died Dec. 18, 2003, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime member of Augustana Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, taught Sunday School and was a quilter. She was a seamstress and had been a Cub Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time at their cabin in Colorado. She loved life and serving others.

Survivors include four children, Stan Johnson of Placerville, Calif., Bruce Johnson and his wife, Jane of Carlsbad, Calif., Genell and her husband, Dale Havekost of Fort Collins, Colo., and Lois Irwin of Sioux City; a sister, Eva Miller of Palm Springs, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Harold Pearson; and a grandson, Eric Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Sales, Curt Sales, Perry Sales, Carl Palmquist, Larry Pearson and Brad Shanks.
