Pete was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Onawa, Iowa, to Ross and Mabel (Cole) Johnson. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was married to Patricia Louise Stinson on Dec. 19, 1952, in El Cajon, Calif. She preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2002, in Sioux City.
