Sharlyn Ann Iversen

DAKOTA CITY -- Sharlyn Ann "Lynn" Iversen, 73, of Dakota City passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mayflower Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Sharlyn was born Jan. 18, 1937, on a farm west of Hinton, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Anna (Ressen) Hensel. She grew up attending and graduating from Hinton Community School. She then furthered her education by attending Wayne State College and graduated with her degree in teaching. She taught 43 years in the South Sioux City system, retiring in 2002.

Sharlyn married Darrell J. Iversen on Aug. 23, 1965. He passed away on July 27, 1997. They had two children.

She was a member of the Mayflower Congregational Church in Sioux City. Over the years she had been active not only at school, but also in the community. She served on the board of directors when the Siouxland Credit Union was formed, had volunteered with the American Red Cross for more than 30 years and had been president of the Dakota City Ladies VFW Auxiliary 5332 for more than 25 years. Sharlyn enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandson, gardening, flowers, animals, camping, fishing and reading.

Survivors include her son, Jim of Dakota City; daughter, Annie Heath (Brian); grandson, Kolton of Anthon, Iowa; brother, William "Buddy" Hensel of Sioux City; sister, Amber Boettcher (Dan) of Akron, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharlyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell; and a brother, Jim.
