Nyeulah Gay (Winne) Isom, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at her residence after declining health.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 1111 Morningside Ave. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Nyeulah Gay was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Dixon, Neb., to William S. and Mae (Palmer) Winne. She moved with her family to South Sioux City in 1933. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1941. She attended N.B.T. She worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1943 to 1961. She moved to Sioux City in 1950.
She married Fay J. Isom on Aug. 29, 1952. Mr. Isom died Aug. 9, 2002, in Sioux City. Nyeulah ran a day-care home from 1964 to 1990. She was a foster parent to 76 foster children.
She was currently attending Southern Hills Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and directed youth groups until she retired. She enjoyed reading, sewing, raising flowers and her grandchildren. She loved all small children and animals, especially cats.
Survivors include two sons, John William Isom and his wife, Michelle of Odebolt, Iowa, and David Lee Isom and his wife, Jodi of Appleton, Wis.; a daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong and her husband, Brad of Sioux City; five grandchildren; and two stepgranddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fay; three brothers; and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be George Pitham, Rich Jordison, Steve Nelson, Jason Kosiba, Mike Bartels and Brian Linafelter.
