Ronald E. Hurd, 56 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home. Funeral services for Ronald will be on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. with family present at the funeral home. Marine Corps Military graveside services will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Ronald Hurd was born July 9, 1954 in Mexico, Missouri to Eddie and Alberta Hurd. He joined the Marine Corps at 17 years old in 1972. He kept climbing the ranks and ended his career as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1988.
Ron married Elaine Stephens on May 22, 1987. The couple started in New York, went to Pennsylvania, on to Idaho, and finally planted their roots in Sioux City, Iowa in November of 2005.
Ronald was an avid amateur radio operator and woodworker. He loved going to craft fairs and sharing his joy with the community. He enjoyed anything having to do with electronics. His absolute favorite hobby was to spend time with his loving family.
His survivors include his wonderful, loving wife of 23 years Elaine; seven daughters: Teresa (Brandon) White; Nichole (Matthew) Cordon; Krystal (Daniel) Lange; Tiffany (Patrick) Crotteau; Brandy (Ryan) Yorgensen; Christina (Kurt) Gardner; and Ashley Hurd. He also had twelve grandchildren and three on the way; three brothers: Gail Hurd, Leo Hurd, Mark Hurd; one sister Patricia Morris. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and Eddie Hurd, his maternal, and his paternal grandparents.
