J. Darrell Hunt, 98, of Sioux City, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008, at Sunrise Retirement Community. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Sioux City Scottish Rite Temple with Neil L. Peck C.L.S. officiating. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Darrell was born on June 7, 1909 to George and Katherine (Drake) Hunt in Bronson, Iowa. He grew up in Bronson and graduated from Bronson High School in 1927 the same day that Lindburgh flew across the Atlantic.
On October 2, 1934, Darrell married the love of his life Louise LeBeck in Sioux City. The couple made their home on the family farm in the Bronson area. He farmed until 1962 and also worked at Nixon Feed at the same time. Darrell and Louise then moved to Sioux City in 1962.
He was a member of the Bronson and Morningside Presbyterian Churches. He was also a member and past Master of Morningside Lodge #615, Sioux City Scottish Rite, and 33rd Inspector General Honorary, Emeritus member of the Directors Staff, Sioux City York Rite Bodies. He was also a member of the Abu-Bekr Shrine, Morningside Chapter of the Eastern Star and a member of the High Twelve.
Left to honor his memory is his daughter, Marlene Downs of Sioux City, son, G.L. (Butch) Hunt and his wife Pat of Lewisville, TX; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Louise on December 14, 2007, 3 sisters, Marie Jorgensen, Elizabeth Link, Constance Robinson, Son-in-law, Gifford J. Downs.
Memorial contributions may be made to Abu-Bekr Transportation Fund.
