Viola E. Marie "Vi" Hughes, 84, of Moville passed away Monday, May 21, 2007, at the Correctionville Nursing Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moville with the Rev. Bert Burwell officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Vi was born July 3, 1922, in Moville, the daughter of Louis E. and Marie E. (Florke) Wink. She married William B. "Bill" Hughes on July 6, 1940 in Le Mars, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1976.
Vi worked many jobs just to see what made the world tick; including Woolworth, Bomgaars, Bostwick as shipping and receiving clerk, Wellers Manufacturing, Zenith Radio and TV, selling tickets at the drive-in theater in Riverside, Judy's Feed Bunk and many more. She also did child care for 18 years. She was president and manager for the Moville Senior Center for six years and a Moville Council person for eight years -- two jobs she loved and respected.
Vi liked farming, raising chickens, gardening and flowers, writing poems, and reading and learning in general. She also liked making quilts and crocheting, fishing and camping, traveling and good music. She loved to pray and thanked God every day He held her hand and walked with her through a wonderful life and for her family and great friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moville.
Remaining Family Members include: three sons, William Jr. and his wife Beth Hughes of LaCroix, Wis., David and his wife Mary Hughes of Moville and Dale and his wife Marlene Hughes of Lawton; one daughter Connie Osterbuhr of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and a grandson who died in infancy.
