NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Rick L. Hughes, 59, of North Sioux City passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rick was born Aug. 11, 1950, in Sioux City, the son of Lyle F. and Helene (Williams) Hughes. He married Jacalyn R. Hoffman on May 31, 1974, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City.
Rick loved to fish and go antiquing. He was a carpenter by trade for more than 30 years, working for many construction companies. He was a member of the carpenter and laborer unions.
He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn of North Sioux City; a son, Steve and Amanda Hughes of Sioux City; a daughter, Teresa and Marcy Hughes of Omaha; three grandchildren, Garrett, Ally and Brady; and two brothers, Paul and Kathy Lanctot of San Jose, Calif., and Mike and Sue Lanctot of Missouri Valley, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to the June Nylen Cancer Center, Hospice of Siouxland and Mercy Medical Center.
