Cleo C. Howard Jr., 81, of Milford, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Kathy Olson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserves. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Cleo was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Homer, Neb., the son of Cleo C. and Helen (Nelsen) Howard Sr. He attended Leeds High School, then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Agnes A. Stolarik on Dec. 25, 1948, in Sioux City. He worked for Williams Pipeline Co. in Sioux City from 1947 to 1967, when he transferred to the terminal in Milford, Iowa. He retired in 1988.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Milford. He was a member of the American Legion Post 384 in Milford, where he served as chaplain. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and tell poems and stories.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Howard of Milford; two sons, Brad Howard and his wife, Mary and Daryl Howard, all of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Darlene and Rollie Cox of Russellville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Leah Barber, Jason Howard, Laura Howard and Travis Howard; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Douglas Dean Howard.
Pallbearers will be Dean Kent, Bob Whitney, Dick Hooks, Craig Martin, Dan Hegarty and Doug Olson. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
