Milton P. Howard

Milton P. Howard, 65, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden of First United Methodist Church officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oakdale Cemetery at Adel, Iowa, with the Rev. Bruce Wittern of United Methodist Church of Adel officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Milton was born on June 23, 1941, in Burlington, Iowa, to Parkes and Francine (Frakes) Howard in Burlington, Iowa. The family lived in Des Moines until the family was transferred by Allis Chalmers to Sioux City in 1959. He graduated from Central High School in 1961.

After graduation, he attended Norfolk Junior College and Nettleton Business College before joining the U.S. Army in 1965. While serving in the Army, he was stationed in Iran. He carried the diplomatic pouch and worked in the demolition branch of the service. Milton returned to the U.S. and was stationed in Omaha, Neb., until his honorable discharge in 1970, as a specialist.

In 1971, he moved to Denver, Colo, where he met and married Bonnie Kelly on Nov. 8, 1980. He was employed by Woods and Company in Denver, Colo. He and Bonnie returned to Sioux City in 2002, where he was employed by the Siouxland Regional Transit System until the return of his cancer in the fall of 2006.

Milton enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping and loved do-it-yourself projects.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Sioux City; two daughters, Kathy Duran of Denver and Mary and her husband, Jack Barker of Denver; a sister, Cora and her husband, William Sibley of Dakota Dunes; three grandchildren, Sarah Duran, Roger Duran and June Marie Barker, all of Denver; and a special niece, Jennie Sibley of Dakota Dunes.
