Ruth H. Hossack

SIOUX CITY -- Ruth H. Hossack, 91, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011, at her home after a brief illness.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ruth was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arnold A. and Katherine (Schroeder) Hauswald. She graduated from Central High School. During World War II she worked at Wincharger Corp.

On Dec. 24, 1942, Ruth married Billie S. Hossack at First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. Billie died May 14, 2008, in Sioux City.

Ruth enjoyed bowling and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church since 1942. Ruth was also a member of the Sioux City Boat Club and the Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Julie DeGroot, Susan Sembach and her husband Steven, and Barbara Hossack, all of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Dr. Amy DeGroot-Hammer and her husband Steven, Katherine Byam and her husband Kris and Emily Sembach; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Carter Hammer; a sister, Alice Johnson of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Billie; her parents; two brothers, Charles Hauswald and Clifford Hauswald; and two sisters, Myrtle Kraii and Emma Garvey.

Pallbearers will be Bill Foulk, Nathaniel Foulk, Jason Foulk, Jon Foulk, Cliff Garvey, Tom Garvey, Kris Byam and Steven Sembach.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Mayflower Congregational Church or the Shriners' transportation fund.
