Barbara Ann Horsley

Barbara Ann Horsley, 59, of St. Peters, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at her home with family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Patricia Roberts, Deacon officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Barbara was born May 27, 1948, in Fargo, N.D., the daughter of Sylvester J. and Mary Kay (Kerner) Dwyer.

She married Larry L. Horsley Sr. on Nov. 17, 1963, in Sioux City. Mr. Horsley died on Jan. 5, 1987. Barbara lived in Sioux City until 1997. She then resided in Hampton, Va., from 1997 through 2001 and then in St. Peters. Mo., from 2001 until the current time. She was employed by Costco for nine years. She was employed by Little King for several years.

Barbara loved to try her luck with the slots, was an avid gardener and did home canning. She was an excellent and adventurous cook, always creating new recipes.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Horsley Jr. and his wife, Karen of Sioux City, and Brad Horsley and his wife, Angela of Dardenne Prairie, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jessica, Zachery, Joshua, Tosha, Morgan and Madeline; a great-grandchild, Freedom; a brother, James (Virginia) Dwyer of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Deanna (Gary) Intermill of Spokane, Wash., Deb (Mark) Protexter of Sioux City and Bonnie and Kurt Kester of Le Mars, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Clair (Phyllis) Horsley of California, and Roddy Horsley of Washington; a sister-in-law, Paulette Ehrhardt of Overland Park, Kan.; and her mother-in-law, Betty Wenbourne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Horsley Sr.; two daughters, Kathy and Karen Horsley; a sister, Jackie (Charles) Simonson; her parents, Sylvester and Mary Dwyer; grandchildren, Christopher and Blake Horsley; her father-in-law, Clarence Horsley; her mother-in-law, Oma Nelson; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Horsley.

Pallbearers will be Jessica Horsley, Zachary Horsley, Holli Protexter, Jennifer Protexter, Brandon Jasman and Bryant Jasman. Honorary pallbearers will be Morgan Horsley, Madeline Horsley, Tosha Mothershead and Joshua Horsley.

Memorials may be made in Barbara's name to the American Cancer Society.
