SIOUX CITY -- Robert E. "Bob" Hopp, 73, of Sioux City went home to heaven on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, with family by his side here on earth and family to meet him in heaven.

Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2010 at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Zellmer officiating, at Meyer Brother Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue.

Bob was born Dec. 21, 1936, in rural Moville, Iowa, on the family farm, to Rudolph and Gertrude (Zellmer) Hopp. He graduated from Moville with the class of 1955, before joining the crew at Aalf's Manufacturing in Sioux City.

He married Sharon McKenzie on July 9, 1961, at the Whitfield United Methodist Church in Sioux City. The couple farmed for a couple of years before Bob returned to Aalf's in Sioux City. He was hired on at Clean Towel, which changed owners and name to F.W. Means Uniform & Towel Co. and remained when it sold and changed to Aratex Uniform & Towel, from which he retired in 1993. He worked at the Sioux City Public Schools as a custodian full time, primarily at Woodrow Wilson, for five years before cutting down his hours and worked as a substitute until Nov. 1, 2009.

Bob was a member of the Siouxland Gem and Mineral Society, where he served as president, vice-president, show chairman, and treasurer throughout his membership years. He also enjoyed his membership to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he was a former church council member, member of the choir, and member of the Couple's Club. He was a Boy Scout leader to Troop 111 in Sioux City, loved to dance, camp, fish and bicycle. Bob was a talented rockhound, gifted woodworker, and skilled craftsman making his own cabinets and furniture. He played softball through church and with recreational leagues. Later in life, he learned to play the accordion.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon Hopp of Sioux City; sons, Chuck Hopp of Sioux City and Dean Hopp of Omaha; daughters, Tammy Davis of Sioux City and Teri Nelson and her husband, Tim of South Sioux City; brother, Alfred D. Hopp and his wife, Mary Ann of Des Moines; special sister-in-law, Shirley McKenzie of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Peggy Hopp of Moville, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Harlan Hoeck and his wife, Mary of Hawarden, Iowa, and Jim McKenzie and his wife, Nancy of Sioux City; grandchildren, Jenny Davis, Josh Davis, Cody Nelson and his wife, Terah, Tyler Nelson, and Sarah Nelson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Esther Hoeck, and brother, Harold Hopp.
