Mary N. Holmberg, 79, of Sioux City, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Countryside Retirement Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) with Reverend Roger Madden officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mary was born on August 6, 1929, in South Sioux City, NE, to Edward and Alice (Mitchell) Reed. She grew up in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1947.
Mary married Clair Holmberg on April 29, 1950, in Elk Point, South Dakota. She was a homemaker until she began working at J.C. Penneys in 1975. She retired in 1990.
Mary enjoyed reading, traveling with her family and going out to eat. She also taught vacation Bible school at St. Lukes Lutheran Church when her boys where young.
Mary is survived by her sons, Clair Holmberg Jr. Brian Holmberg and wife Helen, Tim Holmberg and wife Sandy, and Dave Holmberg and wife Rhonda, 5 grandchildren, Scott Newton, Jennifer Holmberg, Lindsay Holmberg, Alex Holmberg and Andrew Holmberg, 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clair on September 28, 1994, brother, Jerry Reed, 2 sisters, Helen Ford and Rayme Nuzum.
Serving as, pallbearers will be Clair Holmberg Jr., Brian Holmberg, Tim Holmberg, Dave Holmberg, Scott Newton and Rick Bradley.
