John I. Hollingshead

John I. Hollingshead, 52, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a hard fought brief battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth A. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. John was born May 12, 1954, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Fred B. and Wanda L. (Rector) Hollingshead. At an early age, he moved with his family from Mapleton, Iowa, to Sioux City. He graduated from East High School. He served with the Iowa Air National Guard for seven years.

He was employed with Sioux Tools for eight years. He then co-owned and operated Kyle's Auto Repair for several years. Later, he drove a tow truck for Meier Towing for seven years. From 1994 to 2000, he was a truck driver, delivering heavy equipment for several local companies. For the past four years, he was employed with the city of Sioux City in the street division.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking. He was an avid Musketeer hockey fan.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; his mother, Wanda Hollingshead of Washta, Iowa; a son and his wife, Mark D. and Amy Kelly of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Stevie N. Hollingshead and Tami M. Hollingshead, both of Sioux City; three brothers, Earl Kyle and his wife, Lynn of St. Cloud, Minn., Fred W. Hollingshead of Sioux City and Steve D. Hollingshead and his wife, Colleen of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Jann and her husband, Tim Flynn of Denver, Colo., and Lori Hollingshead of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two grandchildren, Shawn M. Kelly and Alexis R. Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his father; and an infant sister, Rhonda.

Pallbearers will be Mark Kelly, Shawn Kelly, Matthew Menzenberg, Freddie Hollingshead, Eddie Kyle, Aaron Scheer, Roy Mathiason and Brian Fahrenholz.
