Vivian L. Holcomb, 89, of Sioux City, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Third Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jennifer Santer officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Vivian was born June 29, 1918, in Stratford, Iowa, the daughter of Peter A. and Elsie May (Martin) Sierks. She graduated from Stratford High School.
She married R. Philip Holcomb on May 22, 1939, in Correctionville, Iowa. He died June 14, 1975. Vivian moved to Sioux City in 1945 and worked for the JC Penney department store and Sunrise Manor. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church.
Family was most important to Vivian, but she also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and painting.
Survivors include her children, Michael Holcomb and his wife, Alice, of Rochester, Mich., Pat Peterson and her husband, Dennis, of Rogers, Ark., Bob Holcomb of Roswell, N.M., Debbie Cagwin and her husband, Mike, of Gainsville, Ga., Krista Pridie and her husband, Jeff, of Sioux City; one brother, Jack Sierks and his wife, Thelma, of Artesia, N.M.; two sisters, Mayola Carlson of Peoria, Ill., and Jean Gatzke and her husband, Bob, of Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren: John Holcomb, Julie Hidalgo, Amy Holcomb, Eric Peterson, Jody Qasem, Annie Nash and Sara Cagwin; 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Memorials may be made in her name to Third Presbyterian Church.
