William S. Holbrook

February 24, 1918 — October 19, 2009

JEFFERSON, S.D. -- William S. Bill Holbrook, 91 of Jefferson, SD died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at his home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Kathie Brown officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bill was born February 24, 1918 in Sioux City the son of Arthur and Everette M. (Snyder) Holbrook. He lived in Sioux City until moving to Jefferson 30 years ago. As a Tech Sergeant with the U.S. Army, he served in the African and European Theaters during WWII.

On November 25, 1940 he married Jeanette N. Davis in Sioux City. He worked at State Steel for many years. In earlier years he worked in construction.

Bill was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. of Elk Point. He loved construction and mechanics.

He is survived by 3 children, Jerry Holbrook of Vermillion, SD, Judith Turk and Lake Wales, FL and Jack Holbrook of Jefferson, SD; 6 grandchildren, Bill and Michael Holbrook, Raina Walker, Jeffrey, Kirk and Douglas Sargent; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; former wife Jeanette Holbrook of Vermillion, SD.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a son-in-law Gene Turk.

Pallbearers will be Doug Sargent, Channing, Gunner, Mike and Bill Holbrook and Don Taylor.
