Harry J. Hogan, 63, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at his residence following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. today at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Harry was born Feb. 27, 1944, in Sioux City, the son of Ray and Vivian "Pete" (Suggitt) Hogan. He graduated from high school in Pierre, S.D., then attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. He then settled in Sioux City for several years and began his career as a steam fitter and welder for various companies. On the side, he opened Viking Sport in South Sioux City in 1970. He then relocated that business to Bronson, Iowa, in 1974, then to Highway 20 East in 1987. He sold the business in 2005.
He married Paula L. (Christiansen) Paulson on July 30, 1994, in Sioux City. Prior to that, he was married to Kathleen Benson, then to Joni (Hildebrand) Beardsley.
He was a member and past president of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union 33. He attended Riverside United Methodist Church. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed snowmobiling as well. He also enjoyed family gatherings and playing cards, especially pitch and hand & foot. He was a Mickey Mouse collector and was always known as "fine as frog hair" saying.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; a son and his wife, James and Sarah Hogan of Concord, N.C.; a daughter and her fiance, Brandi Hogan-Milburn and Terry Anderson of Sioux City; his father and his wife, Ray and Berniece Hogan of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Ron and Sherry Hogan and Denny and Karen Hogan, all of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Judy and Garry Call of Angola, Ind.; three stepsons, Rick Beardsley of Casa Grande, Ariz., Jerry Beardsley of Virginia Beach, Va., and Russ Beardsley and his wife, Laurie of Sergeant Bluff; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Chanel and David Harrington of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Shannon and Nate Pehling of Sioux City; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and an infant son, Jon Jon.
