Helen A. Hoesing

NEWCASTLE, Neb. -- Helen A. Hoesing, 62, of Newcastle died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newcastle, with the Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 5 p.m. today, with a parish wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Helen was born April 6, 1947, in Wayne, Neb., the daughter of Orval and Elaine (Bass) Taylor. She was raised in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1965.

On Aug. 27, 1966, she married Leroy E. Hoesing at St. Peter's Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Lincoln, Neb., for a brief time, then moved to Sioux City. In 1974, they returned to Newcastle. She worked at the Dixon County Courthouse in Ponca, Neb., then later became the parish secretary for St. Peter's and St. Joseph's churches.

She was a member of St. Peter's Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She was an active member of the ladies sodality. She was a devoted wife and mother, spending time with and caring for her children, grandchildren and husband. She enjoyed camping, boating, water skiing, biking, watching movies and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She took great pride in entertaining her family and friends at their home. Her deep faith in God was evident to all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy; four children, Eric of Seattle, Wash., David of Newcastle, Christopher and his wife, Kristin and Jennifer and her husband, Matt Burcham, all of Omaha; three grandchildren, Alexis, Devin and Kalista; her father, Orval Taylor of Ponca, Neb.; two brothers and their wives, Kenny and Carol Taylor of Le Mars, Iowa, and Jim and Mary Taylor of Omaha; two sisters and their husbands, Trish and John Villebro of Hornick, Iowa, and Mary and Joe Kuehler of Columbus, Neb.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elaine Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Doug Taylor, Scott Kuehler, Tom Taylor, Corey Sorenson, Jared Hoesing and Mitch Hoesing.
