Mary E. Hine

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Hine, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, July 7, 2006, at her residence.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church. There will be a private interment in Memorial Park Cemetery prior to the services. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Betty was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Dec. 10, 1917. She was the eldest of six daughters of Henry N. and Mary L. (Hollister) Feyder. Betty had been a resident of Sioux City since 1929. She was a graduate of Central High School. She majored in home economics at Iowa State University, where she received her bachelor's degree and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

She married Donald Richard "Dick" Hine, a partner in the Hine and Company accounting firm, on May 31, 1941. The couple was married for 55 years before Dick's death in 1995.

An active member of First Presbyterian Church, Betty served as a deacon in the church and was active in church circles and Christian education. She was a member of the chapter GZ of the PEO International Sisterhood, the Sioux City Boat Club and Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Survivors include her children, R. Jean Hine of Little Rock, Ark., Gary R. Hine and Karen Hine of Naples, Fla. and Carole "Cara" Jones of Chanhassen, Minn; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Henrietta H. Stine of Sioux City, Virginia Larsen of Mount Vernon, Iowa and Margaret "Peggy" (Mrs. Walter) Brousard of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Feyder.

The family is grateful for the care provided by staff from NorthPark, Hospice of Siouxland and Tristate Nursing.
