Erik G. Highman, the son of the late Alex and Bethene (Green) Highman, was born Aug. 12, 1952, in Sioux City. He attended school in Sioux City and Omaha, graduating from Sioux City Central High School in June 1970.
He worked in Sioux City as an ironworker for a few years. He then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a corpsman at Naval hospitals on both the east and west coasts. After receiving an honorable discharge, he completed two years of college work in California. He worked as a grip on several motion pictures as well as made-for-television movies. He loved to talk about the actors with whom he had worked with. He loved California and the Pacific Ocean. He worked in construction for several years before retiring due to a service related illness.
He married Gayle Pilgrim on June 6, 1990, in Sioux City.
He was a big movie buff and a huge music aficionado due in part to his friendship with the late Tommy Bolin. He enjoyed telephoning friends and playing music for them, which he knew they hated. In his younger years, he was quite good at baseball, basketball and tennis.
Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Charlotte Highman of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Kim Moran of Locust Grove, Ga.; a brother, Jeff Highman (Barbara) of Sioux City; a sister, Alexandra Sprague of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and his buddies, Boe (the canine escape artist) and Mose the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
