Stella Lucille Herring, 104, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Countryside Senior Living.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Private graveside services will be in Kingsley (IA) City Cemetery. Lucille was born Nov. 25, 1903, in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ora (Grimes) Ebelheiser. She graduated from Kingsley High School and attended Morningside College. Lucille received her teacher's certificate from Cedar Falls, now the University of Northern Iowa, and her bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She taught in Manila and Sibley, Iowa, and Hastings, Neb.
She married Cort E. Herring in Kingsley in 1935. He preceded her in death in 1974. They lived in Waterloo, Iowa, Tulsa, Okla., and Omaha. Lucille taught classes for several summers at the University of Lincoln. She retired in 1970 and moved to Sioux City in 1972.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Tri T Club.
Survivors include nieces, Barbara Rippey Anthony of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Noreen Rippey Kott of Sioux City; nephews, Jim Rippey of Trinity, Texas, and Jack Rippey of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Betty Herring of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cort; a brother, Dwight Ebelheiser; and a sister, Lainys Rippey.
