Lyle G. Henkel, 82, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007, in Sioux City.
There will be no services. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Cremation will follow the visitation. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Lyle was born May 13, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Carl and Ruth (Jones) Henkel. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class from Sept. 9, 1942, until Oct. 22, 1945, during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and spent time on various ships including the USS Charles F. Hughes, the USS Moale and the USS Brush.
Lyle retired from All Power Inc. in 1990.
He was a member of Eagles Club. Lyle loved watching boxing, football and watching his son and grandson play ball. He played the harmonica and was always whistling. He favorite song was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Lyle also loved to tell stories.
Survivors include his wife; four children; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings; and a granddaughter.
