SIOUX CITY -- Ronald G. Henderson, 65, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., following his courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Ronald was born Sept. 30, 1943, in Sioux City, to Brackett and Marvel (Chamberlain) Henderson. He attended Sioux City Schools. Ronald entered into the U.S. Army and then later transferred to the U.S. Navy, putting in 16 combined years of service. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was married to Loretta Kluender on Dec. 30, 1971, in Sioux City. Ron managed a Pizza Hut and had worked for Sioux Tools and St. Luke's Hospital. Then Ron went back to school and graduated from the University of South Dakota. He then worked as a drug and alcohol counselor.
Ronald was a life member of the D.A.V., Chapter 54 and was a Past Commander. He was a member of Swift Boat Sailors Association. He was extremely proud of his military service. His beautiful grandchildren were the love of his life. He also loved to travel.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Henderson of Sioux City; two daughters, Jeanne Henderson of Coralville, Iowa, and Jennifer (Chad) Murray of Sioux City; a son, Brad Henderson and special friend, Valeria Denney of Omaha; and two grandchildren, who were the love of his life, Makenna and Alyssah Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be David Stier, C.J. Murray, Garry Johnson, Roland Kluender, Scott Holland and Alan Brodin.
