Norman D. Heilbuth, 86, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating.
Norman was born on Aug. 15, 1921, in Chicago, Ill. He married Jane L. Johnson on July 10, 1943, and they were married for 64 years. Jane passed away three days earlier then Norm. They family believes they chose to stay together.
They lived in the same house in Leeds for 40-plus years and had great friends in the neighborhood. Norm and his wife, Jane, most recently lived at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for their loving care and friendship towards Norm and Jane.
Norman was a cattle buyer for most of his working years for Swift and Co. and then for Meyer Beef, which he co-owned. His last working years were as a commodity broker at REFCO. Norman was a World War II German prisoner-of-war. He was a waist gunner on a B17 of the "Bloody" 100th.
He enjoyed playing cards, golf, Las Vegas, working as a cattle buyer, the stockyards, watching sports, his many friends and his family. Norman was a friend to everyone, a much loved man with a happy countenance, a great sense of humor and a big smile.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son, Don Heilbuth and his wife, Kelli of Sioux City; and three grandchildren, Steve Heilbuth of Chicago, Ill., and Christian and Alex of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his father, William; and his mother, Eleanor.
