Alma Heibel, 89, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Alma was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Tyndall, S.D., the daughter of Jacob and Caroline (Pietz) Buechler.
She married Fred Heibel on April 2, 1938, in Tripp, S.D. He died July 16, 1977, in Sioux City. She was employed for 23 years with Swifts Produce. She also cleaned offices for various businesses.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She loved flowers and her pet dogs, Frankie and Fancy. She especially loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four daughters, Ella Taylor of Sioux City, Shirley (Edgar) See of North Sioux City, Kathy Heibel of Sioux City and Bonnie (Rick) Knutson of Sioux City; a brother, Eugene (Adeline) Buechler of Hartley, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Ronald (Tammy) Thompson, Sharon Glau (Mo Ibarra), Bob (Wendy) Thompson, Randy Thompson, Brenda Taylor, Michelle Winkel (Kevin Woehler) and Alfred (Stephanie) Taylor Jr.; 22 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Roger Thompson; a son-in-law, Alfred "Skip" Taylor; four sisters, Hattie Heibel, Irene Permann, Leah Tate and Mary Schnable; and two brothers, Alvin and Roy Buechler.
Pallbearers will be Rick Knutson, Ronald Thompson, Bob Thompson, Randy Thompson, Kevin Woehler and Alfred Taylor Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis Behrens, Michia Thompson and Bob Thompson Jr.
