F.J. "Joe" Hegenbart Sr., 85, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Hegenbart was born March 20, 1922, in Brainerd, Minn., the son of Fred and Anna (Murphy) Hegenbart. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a technical corporal with the 14th Armored Division in Europe.
He was married to Gloria Phipps. He was employed as a sales manager with Wigman Company, retiring in 1989.
In his free time, he golfed in several mixed leagues. He was part of the Wigman bowling team, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria; three sons, Joe Hegenbart Jr. of Sioux City, Fred Hegenbart and his wife, Liz of Tulsa, Okla., and Scott Hegenbart and his partner, Scott Dibble of Omaha; three granddaughters, Molly, Maggie and Megan Hegenbart; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Hegenbart; and two sisters, Irene Huxtable and Catherine Petersen.
