SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Joye R. Heaton, 84, of South Sioux City died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Nancy Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:15 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Joye was born the daughter of Holger and Inger (Hansen) Nielsen, on May 22, 1925, in Obert, Neb.

Joye married Duwane M. Heaton on Oct. 27, 1941, in Dakota City. The couple farmed in Dixon County, Neb., for several years. They later moved to Jefferson, S.D., where they owned and operated a grocery store for 14 years. After retiring in 1983, they made their home in South Sioux City.

She enjoyed embroidering and painting. She really loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Joye is survived by two sons, Dick (Connie) Heaton of West Point, Neb., and Dan (Dawn) Heaton of Jefferson, S.D.; four daughters, Nancy (Mike) Kleber of Fullerton, Calif., Sandy Chicoine of Jefferson, Brenda (Don) McKinney of Ponca, Neb., and Kim (Ted) Schneider of Sioux City; a sister, Loretta Johnson of Oakland, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duwane; a sister; two brothers; a son-in-law, Gary; and a grandson, Ruben.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Regency Square Care Center Activity Fund.
