Arthur V. "Art" Hayden, 58, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at his residence, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Jeff Hemmingsen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserve. Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 5 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be went to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Arthur was born on Aug. 31, 1947, in Sioux City, a son of William Arthur and Mary Bessie (Harris) Hayden. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux city and attended Briar Cliff College, majoring in mass communications. Art served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Linda Marie Dethlefsen on Aug. 15, 1992, in Sioux City. He was employed with Team Ford for several years. At the same time, he was also a delivery driver for King Sea Restaurant. More recently, he worked at Wal-Mart until retiring due to poor health.

Art was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed fishing, camping, model vehicles and also guns. He was a history buff. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, "Little Peanut", "Pixie","Cowboy" and "Digger".

Survivors include his wife, Linda; six children, special daughter, Sara Couchman and her husband, Sam of Sioux City, William Hayden of Sioux City, Brian Hayden, Marie Hayden and James Hayden of Mitchell, S.D. and Theresa Hayden of Aberdeen, S.D.; four grandchildren, Brooklin Webb, Kada, Tytan and Thor Couchman; two brothers, Ted Hayden and his wife, Karen, of Onawa, Iowa and Fred Hayden and his wife, Verna, of Sioux City; four sisters, Rosemary Smith and her husband, Keith, of Sioux City, Martha Derby of Sioux City, Dena Derby and her husband, Alan, of Coleridge, Neb. and Sherri Simpson of Austin, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; and four brothers, Jerry Hayden, William James Hayden and infant twins, Francis Marion Hayden and Harold Howard Hayden.

Pallbearers will be Blair Halverson, Sam Couchman, Donny Ewing, Ron Derby, Kent Crandall and Barry Derby.
