HINTON, Iowa -- Chester Rolin "Ted" Havener, 80, of Hinton passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peg Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with military rites conducted by the Hinton American Legion Post 477. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Ted was born June 24, 1926, in Winside, Neb., the son of Jay and Elma (Carl) Havener. He was raised in Winside and Carroll, Neb., area, graduating from Carroll High School. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II, as both a radioman and a gunner. Following his discharge from the military, he returned home to help his mother with the family farm.
On June 7, 1953, he married Donna L. Kallsen in Sioux City. He farmed near Hinton and also was a welder with Wilson Trailer from 1966 until retiring in 1992.
He was an active member of Hinton United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the board of trustees. He also was a member of the Hinton American Legion Post 477. His main passions were farming and time spent with his family. He also was an avid Husker fan.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; four children, Kayleen and her husband, Steve Patton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ken Havener and his wife, Helen of Green Bay, Wis., LeAnn Havener of Omaha and Keith Havener of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Timothy Patton, Terese Patton, Troy Patton, Trinity Patton, Sara Havener, Erin Havener, Nathan Havener, Brady Havener, Taylor Havener and Karley Havener; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to Hinton United Methodist Church and Hospice of Siouxland.
