M. Marilyn Hathaway, 70, of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation will follow the service Friday. Graveside services will be noon Saturday in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Marilyn was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Lincoln, Neb. In 1948, she moved with her mother to Sioux City, where she graduated from Central High School.
She married James W. Hathaway Sr. on July 7, 1961, in Sioux City. She and her sister, Jean, did spring work at Earl May for several years. Later, she obtained her real estate license, working for Woodland Realty until retiring in 1990.
Her main hobby was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed making Christmas stockings for the special people in her life. She also was an avid reader, especially murder mysteries.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; a daughter, Brenda Wheelen-Dreas and her husband, Glen of Sioux City; a son, James W. Hathaway Jr. and his life partner, Shawn Hawks of Sioux City; a brother, Charles Lewis of Creston, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Angela Trembly, Brandon Gary, Levi Ruble, Codi Houck, Tabatha Houck, Austin Hathaway and Dakota Hawks; four great-grandchildren; and close friends, Cheri Nesbit of Sioux City and the Donut Sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gene Martin; and two sisters, Jean Farr and Joyce Wetzbarger.
