Jo Ann Nelson Hatcher

June 8, 1924 — November 12, 2008

Jo Ann (Nelson) Hatcher, 84, of Midland, Michigan formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, in Midland, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson ~ Berger Northside Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Crescent Park United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Squires officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jo Ann was born on June 8, 1924, in Zionsville, IN, to Orval Eldon and Helen Lucille (Jones) Sweeney. She moved to Iowa as a young girl with her family. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1943. She married Verner Nelson in 1944; he later passed away in 1971.

Jo Ann worked at a receptionist for Sioux City Radiological Group from 1960 until 1975. She then worked from Drs. Ziebell, Oss and Rossiter from 1976 until she retired in 1999.

She was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church for 50+ years.

Jo Ann married Donald Hatcher in 2000 and they moved to Midland, MI. She was an avid Cubs fan, she liked Nebraska Football and also bowling, walking. She loved knitting and working puzzles. Jo Ann loved her family most of all and was very involved with her grandchildren and their activities.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband Donald of Midland, MI, a daughter Nancy Ann Knapp and husband Evan of Cherokee, IA, a son Dale Robert Nelson of AZ, 3 step children, Carole Royther and husband Roger of Lake, MI, David Hatcher and wife Vasana of Falls Church, VA, and Cathy Tikkanen and husband Michael of Minnetonka, MN, a brother Gary Norman Baumann of Lincoln, NE, 3 grandchildren Sally Jo Selby and husband Jason of Kansas City, MO, Sue Ann Sauer and husband Jared and their children Daniel James and Ryan John Sauer of Lanark, IL, and Kyle Robert Nelson of OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Verner Nelson, a brother Dr. Donnis Eldon Sweeney.
