Raymond W. Hassebroek

Raymond W. Hassebroek, 88, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2007 in Sioux City. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 3-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2007 at Morningside Presbyterian Church with Reverend Richard Francis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Raymond was born July 16, 1918 in rural Ashton, Iowa. He was the son of John and Elsie (Houwen) Hassebroek. Ray was the oldest of four children. His family were farmers in Lyon County, Iowa and he worked for neighboring farmers in his early years. He attended country school in Lyon County, Iowa. Raymond was united in marriage to Sena Hinrichs in Rushmore, MN on February 5, 1942. Together they raised three sons. Raymond served with the Military Police at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas during W.W.II. He belonged to Boilermaker Union Local 83 of Kansas City, Missouri since September 15, 1947. He worked and traveled with the Boilermakers in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. He retired in 1981. He was a member of South Sioux City Eagles Club for 25 years, Siouxland Rental Association for 35 years, and the American legion for 58 years. Raymond and Sena made their home in Sibley, Iowa until 1967 when they moved to Sioux City.

Ray leaves to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 65 years Sena, three sons; Lawrence and Mary Lynn Hassebroek of Florida, Hershel and Susan Hassebroek of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Roger and Jean Hassebroek of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa. Six grandchildren, Kimberly Hassebroek, Michael Hassebroek, Julie Wilson, Bradley Hassebroek, Thaddeus Hassebroek, and Kristine Hassebroek. Fifteen Great-Grandchildren, one sister-in-law Sandi Hassebroek of Crocker, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ray in death were his parents, 2 brothers, Alvin and Donald Hassebroek and 1 sister Pearl Vogdt.
