SIOUX CITY -- Aretta Harwood, 87, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at her residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.
Aretta was born May 9, 1921, in Sioux City, to Karl and Anna (Barendt) Mevius. She grew up in Sioux City.
She married Gerald Harwood in 1940. She worked for Younker's for 27 years, part-time as a bridal consultant and later in the French Room.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling to visit her sons and grandchildren and several overseas trips.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald Harwood of Sioux City, Richard Harwood and his wife, Annette of Banning, Calif., and Dennis Harwood and his wife, Bonnie of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Ricky Harwood, Tommy Harwood, Tammy Bogroff, Vicki Munson and Donna Hanson; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She will be welcomed into the house of the Lord by her parents, Karl and Anna Mevius; a grandchild, Tracy Bordwell; five sisters, Amelia Schoonover, Verna Zimmerman, Elsie Shimmer, Florence Heisler and Helen Marlin; and a brother, Ernie Mevius.
Pallbearers will be Randy Mevius, Mark Scott, Jeff Messerole, Jayme Messerole, Dennis Scott and Jake Butler.
All who loved her will greatly miss her.
