HINTON, Iowa -- Norma L. Hartman, 86, of Hinton died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Hinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neva Thorn Perdue officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Norma was born on June 8, 1924, on the family farm in rural Plymouth County located between Merrill and Hinton, Iowa, to William and Lenore (Rush) Spies. She attended country school and graduated from Hinton High School.
She married Floyd Hartman on Nov. 28, 1942, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death in November 1997. The couple farmed in the Merrill and Hinton area until they moved to Hinton in 1995. Norma was a housewife and sold Avon in the Hinton area for many years.
She was a member of the Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the UMW and served as church treasurer. In her free time, Norma loved to crochet, cook and bake for the family, especially chicken and dumplings.
Survivors include one son, Cal and his wife, Diane Hartman of South Sioux City; one grandson, Scott and his wife, Ann Hartman of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one granddaughter, Tami and her husband, Barry Walker, also of Council Bluffs; two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Hayley Hartman; one sister, Ardie and her husband, Don Arndt of Hinton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Allen; one sister; and two brothers.
