Jeanette E. (Hartin) Hanson, 91, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Bickford Cottage.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary by Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Jeanette was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Staples, Minn., to John and Pearle (Ludwig) Hartin. She graduated from East High School in Sioux City and received her LPN in 1965 at the age of 50 from WITCC, Edward Business Institute.
She married George Hanson in 1938. She retired from Countryside Retirement Home at the age of 74. She was a survivor of the Swift explosion in 1949.
In her free time, Jeanette traveled with friends throughout the U.S as well as internationally. She and her husband square danced, with Jeanette making most of her costumes, one being featured in a Sunday edition of the Sioux City Journal. She was an avid seamstress, making many outfits for her daughter and grandchildren. Her spare time was spent doing needlework. She was a loving caretaker of her husband and mother until their deaths. She loved country western music with her nephew, John Hartin being her favorite singer.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the LPN Association, Catholic Daughters and Carmelite Nuns. Jeanette volunteered at the Siouxland Senior Center, Catholic Bargain Center and Red Cross.
Survivors include a daughter, Portia Bruning and her husband, Alan of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Richard Cooper of Santa Fe, N.M., Christina Flihan and her husband, Mike of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Catherine Derochie of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Michael Flihan and Trisha Flihan, Alexis Derochie, Ashlyn Derochie and Alivia Derochie; a brother, Patrick Hartin and his wife, Otheda of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Bobby, as a young child; and seven brothers, Clarence, William, Earle, Gordon, Clifford, Russell and Everett.
Pallbearers will be Richard Cooper, Dan Hartin, Fred Linder, Doug Williams, Ron Pettit and John Hartin. Honorary pallbearer will be James Carlson.
