Donald Lee Hanson

Donald Lee Gonzo Hanson, 60 of Sioux City, IA died unexpectedly from natural causes on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation with the family present will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Donald was born December 16, 1949 in Sioux City the son of Oscar E. and Ruth L. (House) Hanson. In 1960 he moved with his family to Livermore, California where he graduated from Granada High School.

He began his 41 year employment with the U.S. Postal Service while in high school. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for two years aboard a naval supply ship in the Pacific Ocean. Upon his discharge he returned to California where he resumed working at the post office. In 1979 he moved back to Sioux City and continued his employment at the Sioux City U.S.P.S. until his retirement on April 3, 2009. Don loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also loved pets of all kinds. He was looking forward to moving to Texas to be near his sister and her husband.

He is survived by his sister and her husband, Jody and Steve Johnson of Texas and their son, Steve Jr. of California; a brother, George Hanson of Pennsylvania and Georges son and his wife, Donnie and Missy Hanson and their daughter, Sami of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
