Margaret M. Hansen

SIOUX CITY -- Margaret Meta Hansen, 87, of Sioux City passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband by her side on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Countryside Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell C. Senstad officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.

Margaret was born March 22, 1923, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Meta (Ullerup) Bjorholm. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1940 and attended Samuel Beauty School in 1941. She married Frederick C. Hansen on Sept. 2, 1945, in Battle Creek. Margaret worked as a beautician at Westwood Nursing Home and Sunrise Retirement Home.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was involved with LORL, the Church Circle, the Fellowship Club and a greeter for the church. Margaret was also part of the Mallwalkers, MOPS, Care Reviewers (Nursing Home Reviewers) and the AARP Chapter 1165. She loved to play cards and cook but, most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; three sons, Donald and wife, Molly Hansen of Kansas City, Mo., James "Jim" and wife, Rhona Hansen of Runnells, Iowa, and Keith and wife, Kim Hansen of Sioux City; a son-in-law, Eugene DenBeste of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol; a son, Robert; four brothers; and a sister.

Pallbearers will be Donald Hansen Jr., Robert Bjorholm, Tyler Naeve, Larry Bjorholm, Wesley Furne and Bernard Bock. Honorary pallbearers will be Margaret's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
