Henry E. Hansen

Henry E. "Gene" Hansen, 81, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, at Westwood Nursing & Rehab Center following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Jenkins of New Hope Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserve. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7:30 prayer service, at the funeral home. Henry was born June 16, 1927, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Mary (Reed) Hansen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Phyllis Lautenbaugh on April 14, 1950, in Sioux City. She died Aug. 10, 2000, in Sioux City. He later married Evyonne (Hayes) Reinbold on Sept. 21, 2002, in Sioux City. He was employed by Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 39 1/2 years and retired in 1989.

Henry enjoyed the time he spent at Mercy Medical Center's Cardiac Rehab. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing, playing pool and working on old cars.

Survivors include his wife, Evyonne Hansen; three daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Pat Aguirre, Mindy and Russ Kinnaman and Liz and G.T. Skinner, all of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Barbara Phillips of Sioux City; a sister, Alice Winn of Sergeant Bluff; five grandchildren, Christine Goodwin, Melissa Goodwin, Eden Olson, Corinne Newport and Aaron Hansen; three great-grandchildren, Bailey Goodwin and Alexis and Alyssa Newport; a stepgranddaughter, Lori Jennings; and three great-stepgrandchildren, Jonathan, Hailey and Alexander Jennings.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; a daughter, Kimberly; his first wife, Phyllis; a granddaughter, Rebecca Goodwin; a stepgranddaughter, Rachelle Phillips; his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
