Jack L. Hansel, 65, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Mr. Hansel was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Sioux City, the son of Darrell and Mildred (Mongar) Hansel. He graduated from Central High School in 1959. After high school, he enlisted and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1962.
He married Alice Teply on May 23, 1964, in Tyndall, S.D. He was a life long Sioux City resident. He was a supervisor at Smurfit Stone.
He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. He was a simple man to those who knew him. He enjoyed watching sports on television and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Hansel of Sioux City; a son, Darin (Wendy) of Milwaukee, Wis.; two daughters, Trisha (Doug) Golden of Omaha and Jaclyn Hansel of Sioux City, currently attending Iowa State University in Ames; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Luke, Madison and Hayley; four brothers, Jerry Hansel of Sioux City, Tom (Sherry) Hansel of Sioux City, Robert (Vicki) Hansel of Sioux City and Vince Hansel of Wichita, Kan.; and three sisters, Molly Wetzbarger of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Beverly (Keith) Kelly of Omaha and Kim (Rick) Byrne of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Phylis and Patricia Hansel and Janiene Paulson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses of the seventh floor at Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City.
