Gary D. Hanlen, 70, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at a local hospital.
Services will be noon Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to services Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Gary was born Aug. 21, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of John and Edna (Sutterlund) Hanlen. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1955. He attended the University of South Dakota.
On Oct. 6, 1962, he married Sandra J. Smith in Sioux City. She passed away Aug. 9, 1995.
Gary worked and retired from AT&T.
Gary was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the Presidential Club at the University of Iowa.
Survivors include his brother, Bob Hanlen and his wife, Peggy; his special friend, Anna Whitaker; and family.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra, and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gary are requested to The June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Salvation Army, Goodwill or St. Luke's Children's Miracle Network.
